It's the Canada Day Long Weekend!  Well, almost.  This is from July 2010, and is 100% Canadian Music.  The original playlist can be found here:   The podcast will be back in two weeks with new tracks!

#52 - The Best of Alternative Airwaves - The Notes & Scratches

Due to time restrictions and a short holiday, I didn't have time to put together a full podcast.  Instead, I've selected an older podcast that is currently unavailable on iTunes.  Here is Episode 5 from April 2010 - The Notes and Scratches.

This Week in Music Blogs - Week 24/2012

I haven't really kept up with the happenings in the music sphere this week, because I've been bogged down at work and organizing a team for a media softball tournament.  That's all behind me now, and I still have some links saved up for you!

Just a note about the podcast though: Episode 53, set to air June 30th, 2012, will be a "best of" podcast.  I've selected an older podcast (it's from two years ago) and will put it back online.  It's one of the episodes that is no longer available on iTunes, and I know I won't have time that week to get an episode done.  So, why not re-introduce some people to older episodes?  I will have a few more during the summer no doubt, and I will give a head's up when it happens.

Enough of that - here are some links!

This Week in Music Blogs: Week 23/2012

Pretty interesting week, musically.  There were a ton of "blogworthy" releases, as The Good, The Bad, and The Unknown put it.  But more interestingly for me - mostly because I'm a copyright freak - was a decision by the Copyright Board of Canada to start collecting tariffs for using recorded music at live events.  Most everyone that reported on this news item this week highlighted that it means paying royalties for playing songs at a wedding, but this tariff also includes conventions, karaoke bars, ice shows, and fairs.  Oh, and parades will also be hit with a $4.39 fee for each float that plays recorded music.

Pretty messed up, eh?  More reason to embrace artists who release their tunes under a creative commons license.  Here are some blog articles for you to read from this week:

#51 - I Am Not Lefthanded, The Black Atlantic, Mouth's Cradle

In episode 51 of Alternative Airwave, I've got some new tracks from I Am Not Lefthanded and The Black Atlantic, and I also discuss some changes implemented by the Copyright Board of Canada, plus a show announcement for Streets of Hastings.  That plus some other great music by folks such as Mouth's Cradle and The Monster Brothers.  Enjoy!

  1. This Public Life - Smile (The Banquet, 2011)
  2. Mouth's Cradle - Demon (The Next Big Thing, 2010)
  3. Praverb the Wyse - The Critic (Smimooz Remix) (Professional Hobbyist, 2011)
  4. I Am Not Lefthanded - Brace Brace (The Fire and The Sigh, 2012)
  5. The Black Atlantic - Darkling, I Listen (Darkling, I Listen, 2012)
  6. The Monster Brothers - UNOIMRITE (Colossus, 2011)
  7. Marina and the Diamonds - Girlfriend (Boyfriend cover) (2012)

** NOTE ** Last year I took a summer hiatus from the podcast; I don't plan on doing that this year, but there may be a few weeks here and there that get missed. I'll try to put up something in place of a new episode if that happens.
